It takes courage to abolish pork barrel and investigate anomalies
We ask you, Mr. President, to assure that the investigations
will be speedy, fair, thorough and credible.
We commend you, Mr. President, for your courage and humility for having reconsidered your position on the Priority Development Assistance Fund (a.k.a. Pork Barrel Fund) and called for its abolition, difficult as it may have been, as we realize advancing your inclusive-growth plans and programs will require Congressional support. We are affirmed that your brand of leadership transcends self-interest and patronage politics and is anchored on a passion and conviction for serving the common good and the ends of justice and truth. We, therefore, ask that your administration aggressively pursue reform measures to eradicate all systemic inefficiencies and loopholes susceptible to abuse and graft and corruption.
We rally behind your administration’s efforts to investigate the P10B Pork Barrel scam that has been hugging the headlines these past weeks, triggering a public outrage vs. graft and corruption. In fact, many of our members joined the march to Luneta last Monday to express our indignation. We support the Commission on Audit, Ombudsman and Department of Justice independent probes into this and other anomalous transactions and ask you, Mr. President, to assure that the investigations will be speedy, fair, thorough and credible.
Allow us also to remind all our government officials to be true to their calling as public servants. We challenge them to a higher order of integrity, transparency, accountability and a greater love of God and country. We have many fine examples of government officials who demonstrated that “public office is a public trust.” We count Ninoy and Cory Aquino among those who lived that principle. It is not an old and obsolete adage to us who have faith and we encourage you, Mr. President, to make it also part of the legacy you will leave the Filipino people.
We, the governing councils of Ang Ligaya ng Panginoon (LNP), Couples for Christ (CFC), Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) and FAMILIA, as well as all our affiliated communities, wish to assure you, Mr. President, of our continued prayers and support in all your plans and endeavors that have the best interest of our countrymen in mind.
In closing, we declare our all-out support for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) position on the matter, as we echo our very own Cardinal Tagle’s urging for all the politicians and others involved in the scams and anomalies “to go to the slums and experience what it is like to be poor.” We, therefore, appeal to all our countrymen to pray for the grace to grow in the compassion of our Lord and Ruler of us all, that we may heal individually and as a nation and be a blessing to one another.
